how many是问句,对可数名词数量提问，后面应该跟"are there",不是"there are"..

How many，用来询问数量，意为“有多少……”，答语为“There is/are…”，后接可数名词的复数形式。

辨析：how much 表示“多少”，后接不可数名词，还可用来询问价格。

how many=多少(个)? there are = 有 作状语

因为问话人不知道具体的数量是多少,而且many只能接可数名词复数形式,所以be一定要用are.即用How many+可数名词复数+are there+地点/时间状语的句型结构。
